Ground Meat with Peas ~ Keema Matar (Spice Blend Recipe)
“Keema Matar” - Ground Meat with Peas
A popular and staple Bengali/Indian-style dish. This hearty one-pot curry is packed with warmth and flavour, whilst being super simple to make!
This recipe is traditionally made with ground lamb/mutton, however it can be made with any ground meat of choice (beef, turkey, chicken)!
Serves 4
Method:
1) Heat the oil in a large heavy-based saucepan over a medium heat. Add in the garlic and ginger, and fry for 15 seconds.
2) Add the onion to the pan and sauté for 3-4 minutes, or until browned, before adding the beef or lamb.
3) Stir frequently for around 10 minutes, until the meat is light brown and crumbly.
4) Remove momentarily from the heat and mix in your spice blend, followed by the tomato purée and salt.
5) Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, before adding the chopped tomatoes and passata.
6) Cook for a further 7 minutes, stirring in a couple of tablespoons of water occasionally to prevent the meat from sticking to the bottom of the saucepan.
7) Add 200 ml of water. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until reduced to a fairly thick sauce.
8) Add the peas and bring to a boil, cooking for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat.
9) Finish with chopped onion (if using) and fresh coriander leaves.
